About Bernie

In 1973 Rand Howell and Geoff McIntosh met while

attending Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. Rand was a bartender at the Bannock Hotel. Together

they frequented Bernie's Landing, a small lounge located down a flight of stairs from street level on South Arthur Avenue just down the block from the Bannock.

Their lives and careers took them from Idaho to California and through numerous management positions

in food and beverage. They have previously owned two restaurant operations in addition to building a successful real estate brokerage in Long Beach, and acquiring a number of

investment properties with their friends Dave and Lorraine Woody.

They purchased their first home in The Desert in 2005 and soon discovered a restaurant at 292 East Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs called Davey's Hideaway. They were greeted at the front door by the host named Bern Hebert. Almost in unison they said, "We're back at Bernie's!" They became regular guests and ate there weekly for almost 5 years! They often talked to the owner about buying the restaurant from him but never came to an agreement.

In July of 2013 they discovered almost by accident that Davey's Hideaway had closed and the property was for sale.

Bernie's was BACK!

Sadly on December 25, 2014 the building in Palm Springs burned to the ground just before opening for dinner. Thankfully no one was injured. On January 27, 2017 we were delighted to be able to re-open in our new Rancho Mirage location.
